Conan the Barbarian

Arnold Schwarzenegger stars as Conan, a hulking beefy warrior who spent his childhood forced to seek the giant wheel around in circles. After a brief career, and the notorious pit-fighter, then popular among mercenaries Gengis Khan himself, Conan sets out on his own to find out the mystery of steel and mysterious man who has long been Konan burned the village and killed his parents. After befriending some tricks pair of thieves Sandahl Bergman (It), and Gerry Lopez, Conan discovers that the mysterious man is actually a feared sorcerer Thulsa Doom (James Earl Jones), which currently has a massive snake-worshiping cult that follows the him as a god. Despite warnings from his fellow players thieves, a mission he uses Conan King Osric (Max von Sydow of Flash Gordon and Dune), in order to save Osric daughter as an excuse to excise his revenge on Thulsa Doom. It turns out that a sufficiently close to the Duma will be harder than Conan, but will require more victims than Conan was willing to tolerate, and, of course, humiliation and loss only makes Conan alignments. Not good. Many killings and bloodshed follows, as well as one of the most protracted siege prosaic battles since Seven Samurai, where Conan, and a couple of friends to destroy the fate of most armies, through various traps, tricks, and surprisingly good luck.

This is the first indicator of a fantastic film benefits greatly from its adult themes and dark, gritty issue. Among the dead-serious processing director John Milius does not detract from the fun at all, like, at least, the film is kept from the cheesy (which is not terribly Continued boasts). Furthermore, it is perhaps the worst case of medieval high budget films ever with its share of violence and gore. In special effects Carlo De Marchis (Tuareg: The Desert Warrior) quite impressive especially in the case of many prosthetics used to a close. Konan chief rescue grace is the same dazzling production design Ron Cobb, Giovanni Natalucci, and Danilo Donati (Caligula), and especially memorable for Musical Basil Poledouris (Robocop). The Spanish countryside is as beautiful and brilliantly matching activities with the radical music, creating a sense of class rarely found in this genre often trashy. Conan the Barbarian Schwarzenegger has become a major star overnight, and will soon be terribly comedic Conan the Destroyer Continuation (featuring quite amazing creature in Giannetto De Rossi and Carlo Rambaldi), and to some extent Red Sonja and Kulla Conqueror. It is not long before Italy started spitting from immitations per thousand, such as the Conquest, Ironmaster, and Ator series. America was not much better, although, as we will soon extinguish Deathstalker and Beastmaster (and ultimately has a lot of implications too). B-movie fans should Jess Franco regular Luis Barboo iguanas, like red hair guard who claims Konan at an early stage, as well as William Smith, as Conan father and Sven-Ole Thorson as one of the leading Thulsa goons.

This film falls in the arm - and-arm with Dino De Laurentiis other ambitious start-80 in productions like Flash Gordon and Dune (notice how they are all stars Max von Sydow, too), with their star-studder casting, the Spanish - Italian film crew, and its hugeness grand scale industries. I grew up in these three films, and they are the standard by which I bet all the other films. It is sad that in recent years, De Laurentiis has reduced production of “blockbuster” movies, such as U-571 and Hannibal. Where have the good times gone?
