Cliffhanger

Gabe Walker (Sylvester Stallone) is a member of a climbing rescue teams. When one of its operations goes wrong, and the girl of his best friend, Hal Tucker (Michael Rooker), killed, Gabe blames himself and leaves. Eight months later, after the creation of life in Denver, he returned to the mountains to persuade her lover, Jessie (Janine Turner), to come with him. While he was here, the call for help comes in, and Gabe decides to take part in one last rescue attempt. But unknown to him, the emergency call is a fake, put out by a group of hijackers aground in the mountains after the crash of his plane. Under the leadership of psychosis Qualen (John Lithgow), they were after three suitcases of money (100 million dollars), which lost somewhere in the peaks and valleys of the Colorado Rockies.

Hey, it is down-and-a street fighter from South Philly do climb mountains in the tee-shirt?

Seriously, though, Sylvester Stallone’s newest character may be named “Gabe”, but it takes a lot of terribly fond of men with the name “Rocky” and “Rambo”. Ibid John McClane him just as well. This is not original or interesting persona, and this shows what can happen when an actor becomes too easy to identify with one (or two) role. To his credit, Stallone tried to do something different (two comedies and named Oscar - ugh! - Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot), but when the “great experiment” failed, he returned to the genre where he made his money. Whether Cliffhanger Stallone to bring back into the upper echelon of action movie has not yet been determined, but if this film can not, the task may be impossible.

The first scene is typical of the entire film. There is a lot of action and a fair degree of tension (although it is fairly obvious what will happen). Stallone gives muscle to their best advantage, as he stretches his hand to save the lives of girls hanging on the line. Bad dialogue knows how lame acting. “Please do not let me die!” a girl, at least half of all ten times before plunging into its doom. This is not an example of a well-written dramatic moment, but it shows how all Cliffhanger was put together.

When the movie goes to the drama, it inevitably fails. This dialogue is routine, frequently interrupted for a cliche, and character-building scenes do little more than waste time. One may argue that there is not enough action in the picture because of the long, drawn-out sequences. They do not work, so that their inclusion losses Cliffhanger pace.

Editing suspect. The final product is heavily cut. Numerous moving scenes were trimmed in favor of the character moments. There are also some useless scenes featuring several school children, who have no purpose in the overall storyline. I am sure that none of the expensive shots were eliminated, but the curious fact that the choice to use Cliffhanger gave an uneven tone.

Renny Harlin shown in Die Hard 2, that he has the skills when it comes to the sequencing of leadership. This ability is manifested in Cliffhanger. Of course, the film borrows from other action films (most notably the original Die Hard), but it does so in a big, bold way, and there are enough new things to keep the scene fresh. Unfortunately, as strong as Harlin with mountains and hardware, it is weak, that with the actors. He gets few of them seem to be more interested in the next avalanche, rather than delivered to the line.

John Lithgow, surprisingly ineffective as the villain. Given his past reputation, it seemed, that he would be perfect to play Alan Rickman-clone (a smooth-talking, British-accented psychosis who because of the money). However, the role is extremely undervalued, and Lithgow in Qualen becomes the least hated members of his group of bandits and mercenaries. Cliffhanger takes pains to make us feel revulsion bad guys, but it ringleader in that we have less antipathy j.

If you are in a mood that’s completely senseless and visceral (really senseless - site is a joke, full of contrivances and coincidences), the film will be consistent with the bill. Part of them painfully bad, but there are many examples, as well as activities designed that, in general, offset most gaffes. This is a poor man’s Die Hard. She explosions, shooting and impressive stunts, but few of the mind and intellect. In other words, this is a typical summer action flick.
