Churchill - The Hollywood Years

Winston Churchill was an American GI, who had a steamy romance with the young Princess Elizabeth. Hitler lunch with the Royal Family and close to the command of our forces. This “re-telling” pokes fun at the history of the British aristocracy, American patriotism, and anyone who pays the money to film.

Christian Slater is unconvincing all, as Winston with GI activities and Neve Campbell as the romantic heroine in the position known as the Princess Elizabeth, starts grate at the British audience, many of whom may well find themselves doe-eyed subservience to the American soldier insult.

Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, as absurd as mannered foot to the Royals. They do homosexual references in response to anything he said, before concluding their “Happy” comedic performance, beating Princess Elizabeth in unconsciousness.

Harry Enfield as King - his character listed in the databases of several films as George V, which is strange, considering the father of Elizabeth and Princess Margaret was George VI - this is tiresome. He asked the audience to laugh at the same joke - King does not know what planet he was - throughout the film.

Jon Culshaw as “Prime Minister” suddenly confronted with Churchill in collusion, it is joy to watch, as it is clear to the British audience that he really is. In the British to see Tony Blair is desperately trying to wriggle from another trail of lies. His performance sets the tone for the entire movie. The audience is invited to chuckle at themselves and their foibles.

Why are the British obsessed with tea and crumpets and the civil things? Why do Americans always using words like “donkey”? Why are Americans so loyal to their patriotic duty?

Churchill: The Hollywood Years believes that smart, but not so. He believes that this social commentary: it is not. He believes that this laugh-a-loud parody, exposing the features of the super power and its ally from the poodle, but it is anything but.

Along Culshaw efforts to raise, the only other notable performance comes from comedienne Sally Phillips, playing a comely waitress largely involved in the Churchill and Princess Elizabeth escape from the royal train.

Alas, the writing is a way to a movie and actors down to a great extent. This scenario is nothing more than a collection of throwaway gags and tired, repetitive comedy routines.

Every so often, there’s a moment when the comedian ceases to be a political prophet age, providing incredibly cold sardonic satire with humor, and it is foolish man doing stupid things. Churchill: The Hollywood years is that the moment brought to celluloid.
