Cashback

The way money plays with reality gently tickles the memory with distant echoes of the Big Fish and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Over the hallmark of life in the developed Shaun Ellis delightful romantic comedy that allows the artist in the heart, and in the minds of those trapped workers on the graveyard shift 24 - hour supermarket. Along the way, women are naked, couples who fall in love, and the pick-up team lost 26 games - to-nothing. Money, not daring or ambitious, but, despite its uneven tone and tendency to meander individual, it is endearing.

In 2004, Ellis made the Oscar-nominated short-called “money” on the life of the business. The picture received some fame because of his “extreme” nudity - full frontal images of women emerging in grocery store passageways, and frozen in time. Two years later, Ellis elected to take the premise of “money”, and develop it into a feature length endeavor. He removed the entire cast in the movie another 80 minutes. The finished product includes not only new material, but almost all short. Indeed, almost all the money in nudity since 2004 version.

Ben Willis (Sean Biggerstaff) has just gone through a traumatic dissolution with his girlfriend, Suzy (Michelle Ryan, shortly In Bionic Woman). In emotional trauma, insomnia gave him to convey night, he decides to work in the grocery store. There, at night, he will be accompanied by pranksters Barry (Michael Dixon) and Matt (Michael Lambourne), manager Jenkins (Stuart Goodwin), and quite familiarize clerk Sharon (Emilia Fox). Although his body is a routine tasks, Ben’s mind wanders free, freezing time so that he can undress and pose women buyers, in order to paint their portraits. This law is artistic, not prurient (and presented as such - there is nothing erotic about these pictures, they ether), and Ben fascination for the female form is due after the outbreak. Eventually, he learns that the road to emotional healing and good night sleep may be in connecting with Sharon, but never just in a romantic comedy…

The key to the money in likeability is its characters. These types of people we appreciate spending time with. Ben narrative voice-smart and sharp, and not just regurgitate things that we can learn by looking at the images. Sharon is believable as the kind of woman can be found in grocery store late at night. It starts by an average-looking (not a person turn heads), then gradually becoming more appealing as the film progresses. We see it through the eyes of Ben. Ellis gives money to the whimsical tone, and there is no hint of magical realism. In scenes when time stops are beautiful scene.

The actors all do a good job. Sean Biggerstaff strikes the perfect note, as Ben - just shy and nerdy, but with a sense of humor and soul artist. Like Sharon, Emilia Fox is available and, as indicated above, to look subtly more attractive as the film is getting closer to the end credits. Michelle Ryan is shrill, but this is intentional, because its nature is to provide the expected romantic complications. Michael Dickson, Michael Lambourne, and Stewart Goodwin on hand primarily for comic relief. Shawn Evans best friend fills the role adequately. In addition to Ben go bar in the casino and give it is not very sage advice about love, his main goal is to get a hit or a woman drinks thrown in his face.

The film structure a little uncomfortable, almost certainly, as a result of its expansion from 20 to 97 minutes. Some additional material can only be welcomed, as it fleshes of the characters and their relationships. What happens in the end is good contact. Other things, such as football, have a filler. In general, however, is more than worth to suffer some slow patches to get to a more abundant good bits. Money is light, clever, and fun, and it makes me want to see what Ellis plans for his next outing.

Note: This film was released theatrically in the United States of Magnolia Pictures, the company committed nearly simultaneous releases on the screens of films and home videos. Thus, while the money will only play in a limited number of theaters beginning July 20, it will be available on the Region 1 DVD four days later. For those who can not (or does not want) to see him on the big screen, you should at least rent.
