Candy
Candy is an Australian film, which also offers a dose of familiarity. This is one of those drugs-is-hell movies that the following time-tested ways of watching as two likable characters on the path of self-destruction that results when recreational drug advice on the edge of addiction. There are two things about the grim Candy is going for it: the characters are more self-aware than most of these films (no denial - they are junkies, and they know it) and the acting could not be better. Heath Ledger, as well as it has never been, Geoffrey Rush is his usual reliable self, and Abbie Cornish is a dynamo. (Cornish, by the way, can now regarded as a lot of different types of character in A Good Year.) Film, with the Aussie director Neil Armfield, declares its thesis early and sticks to it: “When you can stop [drug use] you do not want to. If you want, you can not. ”
Poet Dan (Ledger), and artist Candy (Cornish) to live a carefree life, as young lovers, despite the objections of her parents, who think Dan is a loser. They do not make a lot of money, so they live at the expense of love - and heroin. It is not long before the drug becomes their driving motivation to get in the morning. First, they borrow money to buy drugs, they have resorted to pledge almost all they know. Finally, Candy enterprises in prostitution and Dan begins kidnapping and scamming. Her pregnancy encourages them to get serious about leaving, but without the necessary assistance from external sources, they are doomed to failure before they start.
Ledger and Cornish so good, you can forget about dating script. These two tragic characters trapped in decaying orbit. They do the same thing many times, each time with less precision. The film is divided into three acts, each of which has a name: “Heaven, Earth and Hell.” The first title is misleading, and even before “Heaven is over, the fall from grace began. Abby has sold her body for the bag directly that the child is powder.
As is typical for this kind of film, Candy, is not happy viewing. It in no way glamorizes drugs, on the contrary, in fact. While he was trying to provide an opportunity to look to the top, which leads to dependence, it did not do so with great success. This is all about the collapse. Those hoping for a fresh look will not find it here. There Candy nothing that can not be found in a better, more gut-major proposals, such as “Requiem for a Dream. Spite of the fact that well-made, and is operated, Candy is a true feel-bad experience.
