Cabin Boy
As with any film that Tim Burton adds his name, Cabin Boy is the distinctive flavor - visually impressive, containing elements of fiction and mythology, along with the usual and accustomed to. From a variety of sources, such as Captain Courageous, the Sinbad movies, and Pee-wee in the Big Adventure, this film should be a pleasure - if strange - eighty minutes. Unfortunately, this star Chris Elliott, a man with little charisma and less screen presence.
Nathaniel (Chris Elliott) have just graduated from Stephenson Finishing School, where he successfully completed all the necessary courses to become official “fashion guy” (one stall action aristocratic minors). After leaving the school, he had the whole set to assume the work of the father of a hotel in Hawaii. However, on the road to the port of the vessel, it faces several challenges, and, instead of getting on the luxury liner Queen Catherine, he mistakenly councils in Filthy Whore, fishing scow. When roughneck crew, headed by Captain Graybar (Ritch Brinkley) refuse to accept it as his destination, Nathaniel whether some intervention in its own to try to change the course. It is not working, and “Filthy Whore gets in a section of the sea called” Hell’s Bouquet, where icebergs walk, talk cup cakes laugh clouds, green women (as played by Ann Magnuson), six weapons and equipment shop manager (Mike Starr ) have a fifty-feet high.
Cabin Boy has its share of clever moments, but the most disappointing that about Adam Resnick in the scenario is that, while toying with a number of intriguing concepts, it will take neither the time nor the effort to develop any of them. There is untapped potential in this movie to provide fuel for a half-dozen full-length features.
In unfunny humor clearly, as the courts have repeatedly picture cheap laughs. A cameo David Letterman lacked the mind (and intellect) - a condition shared by more than that scene. Q comic standards, Cabin Boy is a failure, proving that no matter how much a movie wants to make his audience laugh, it should be amusing to do so.
Chris Elliott is extremely bad as the title character. While his role appeals to the more-on-top performance, Elliott grating persona undo any positive contribution it can offer in this area. His work is amateurish, turning, perhaps, entertainment sequences in the tedious interludes. Without its star, Cabin Boy may have received at the purely fantasy, but Elliott almost everywhere.
The film makes some stabs at satire, but many of them are poorly demarcated, and difficult to identify, while others are entirely too obvious. Often cabin boy did not seem to know what tone to adopt wobbling uncertainty among human imagination, stupid comedy, parody, biting. This split personality is rapidly becoming apparent to those sitting in theater seats.
At that time, visual masterpieces as Jurassic Park and “Nightmare Before Christmas, special effects work is reflected in the cabin boy is embarrassing, and it will be stretching matters who believe that such poor quality is an asset for the film satirical bent. There are many times when it is obvious that the “Filthy Whore is a model, and when Nathaniel giant raised in the air, it takes a lot of imagination to determine rag doll with Chris Elliott (as the doll becomes a much better performance).
Cabin Boy is the writer / director Adam Resnick debut in the director, and in the presence of his good friend Elliott helped to sabotage it. Resnick in the next draft of something called Hopetown, which he describes as “a different kind of offbeat comedies - that is not happening at sea.” If it can expand its current version flashes of ingenuity, there is reason for optimism about the Hopetown, especially since it will not feature marquee salon Boy’s “actor”.
