Bugsy Malone
Fourteen years Jodie Foster has been very busy and very weird year in 1976. A Freaky Friday for Disney, the Taxi Driver for Scorsese, and it was. Thirty years after its release, Bugsy Malone, an adult offender comedy / musical, in which all the roles played by children, can make you nostalgic po’70 s i’30 s at the same time. It was this oddity was directed by Alan “Midnight Express” Parker, just doing all that more strange. Observation always amazing Jodie vamp it with one of its star,’70 s adolescent dreamboat Scott Baio as they lip synchronization for tracks of the adults who sing for them is a stranger cinematic experience you will ever have. Forgive me if I pause time to go see a synonym for “strange”.
Basically, the story of warring factions, Bugsy Malone introduces us to Fat Sam (John Cassisi), and Dandy Dan (Martin Lew), which is fighting for the grass. Bugsy (Bayo), Sam shows in the bar, and meets Blousey Brown (Duggal Florrie), which wants to be a star. When the bar was raided, Dandy Dan breaks out of its new weapons, as a “Splurge gun” that shoots whipped cream. Bugsy and Blousey hit it off, but he also caught the eye sexy vamp Talullah (Foster), who always gets her man. Do you care?
A dozen songs short limbed’70s Pop turn to the guy Paul Williams, the majority of whom are totally forgettable drivel that even the Carpenters or not Captain and Tennille to save, the movie goes along, in its mad way, alternately boring stretches, the name songs, and Splurge gun battles that leave every kid gangsters covered with goo. One wonders how all students in secondary schools, which use this article as a basis for its annual school play finesse of gunfight scenes.
If there is no winner here it is Foster, who is doing what it can with the material, playing a tough girl, as soon as it is for Scorsese (and just as it still does today). There, in little more here, thus providing even the minimum for a musical or comedy. Your kiddies might be interesting to see other plays kiddies dress, but you just scratch your head in amazement, as you reflect on the fact that Bayo, not Foster, was to be a breakthrough star of this show.
