Bug
Calling a Bug “horror” films can be misleading. Although the film contains some of the attributes of the genre fans might expect - including one time grief, which will cause some viewers to turn away from the screen - this is more psychological drama. In addition, it is very strange, but I think that just might be expected, given that the film is adapted from a play about two characters who spend most of their time inside the motel room feeding each other paranoid delusions (not the most delectable entr th e). Error is creepy and hard to dismiss, but it’s not a lot of fun and its weaknesses leave a bitter aftertaste.
Ashley Judd plays Agnes, direct barman at his hang lesbians whose tragic past and an uncertain future, leaving it with a few friends than lovers. She spends her working hours in the motel room she calls home, and not going to parties or fraternizing with anyone other than her friend, RC (Lynn Collins). She sits in a dimly lit place, drinking and nursing wounds from the loss that still stings after so many years. Worse still, her ex-abuse, Jerry (Harry Connick Jr.), has just received from the prison, and someone is calling her repeatedly, but did not say when it meets on the phone.
One night, RC stop on the way to one side. In it Peter (Michael Shannon), a shy kind of guy who piques interest Agnes. Both ultimately the cost of the night together - with him on the floor, and into the bed. Peter is the odd man - he is not interested in sex, he argues that almost supernatural ability to read people, and he fled from something or someone. Agnes just grateful to have found someone to call a friend, but Peter ability to distinguish fact from fantasy in doubt. It begins observing errors everywhere, and while Agnes did not see them first, it goes with him, and soon convinced that the almost microscopic insects infect not only in her motel room, but its very authority.
Error is a portrait of two border schizophrenics. This is a love story with two singles paranoid delusionals that strike each other with their problems. They are wild conspiracy theories to explain the errors - everything from aliens to cover state-owned enterprises and secret medical experiments. Their situation is characterized by an “us against the world” mentality, as they are growing convinced that still involved or connected. When psychologist stopping to visit Peter, it is seen as a spy, and should not be trusted.
The film, directed by William Friedkin (whose previous credits include The Exorcist, and the French Connection), never trying to convince us that Agnes and Peter misunderstandings can be real - that this may be a story about two unfortunates caught in the grip of a unethical experiment. It is clear from the outset that the characters on the edge, and it takes only poisonous interaction with others seek them. Acting is a high fever and short - just what you would expect from two deeply concerned about the people in a situation where there are no external forces to fight their growing madness.
Weed and sound are used to emphasize the madness. We hear aircraft noise, as in the mouse closer to the camera spinning ceiling fan. Most of the film takes place in the motel room, which is growing increasingly claustrophobic, especially after a wall papered with aluminum foil, and the lights, which will be replaced by eerie blue glow bulbs insect repellant. Friedkin uses simple techniques to increase the level of audience discomfort.
There is no doubt that the error is intense. This is a rather nightmarish experience, complete with seats self dental care that squeamish viewers will be unable to withstand. (Turn away when left pliers.) Nevertheless, for all that terrible movie, it is not entirely successful. After a well-constructed first act, history becomes a bit tedious and repetitive and the characters to be identified before, stray close to the edge of all the emotions one dimension. There will be something to talk about movies, it is far from the mainstream and not uninteresting. However, the size of the audience that will take something meaningful from the mistakes are very small. The film, as difficult as it was to turn away from.
