Breach

No matter how persuasive and intriguing real life can be, it does not necessarily translate into equally convincing, and offers intriguing picture. Violation This is a case in point. Based on the widely publicized case, turncoat FBI agent Robert Hanssen, which dominated headlines in late February 2001, the film success in a thriller with a few thrills. At one end, it is in advance (and demonstrated to anyone who might be in the dark in the first place, at the press clips John Ashcroft announced the arrest of Hanssen), there is little room for suspense. Billy Ray Hanssen in the chronicles of the seizure is the high point, but it is a bit on the dry side. Thank God for Chris Cooper.

Eric O’Neill (Ryan Phillippe) in training as a special agent for the FBI when he called during a meeting with an agent Kate Burroughs (Laura Linney). She assignment for Erica: to become a clerk for the agent Robert Hanssen (Chris Cooper), and make detailed records of all of its activities. Hanssen is suspected of belonging to a sexual deviant and Feds want to prove that they are before deciding. After several sharp clashes with the original Hanssen, Erik respect grows older person who seems to be a God-fearing, morally upstanding patriot. He was also a master manipulator, which can be seen by any false - traits for survival in his position. This is when Eric expresses doubts about the guilt of Hanssen to Kate that he will know the whole truth. The real reason Hanssen is under investigation, not because of his unusual sexual proclivities, but because he is suspected of belonging to the Russian agent. Evidence that nonplused Eric seen with growing horror, is damning.

Violation is a one-man show. Chris Cooper brings much-needed spark to the otherwise deprived of energy production. Cooper is brilliant, as Hanssen - clever, creepy misanthrope whose tormented soul briefly shown in several telling sequences. On a walking contradiction: he loves his wife and family, wants to connect with Eric, is a mass every day until it makes amateur porn tapes and sells his country roads secrets Russia. The film does not delve deeply into Hanssen in motivation or background, but so Cooper well that such omissions are not damaged three dimensionality of nature. In the actor’s hands, Hanssen is becoming rare villain - a man who is equally easy to despise, sorry, and feel compassion.

With enough actor equivalent talent to play opposite Cooper. Ryan Phillippe is not terrible, but he could not hold his own and, as a result, it’s impossible to believe that his character can outwit, outmaneuver, and ultimately reduce Hanssen. Phillippe does not convince as Eric - emotions, it does not seem real, and there are too many scenes in which it is evident that he is acting. Moreover, the cast is not enough Laura Linney as the handler for Eric, even more inadequate Dennis Haysbert, as its chief, and Caroline Dhavernas as Eric in adorable, outspoken wife.

This is Billy Ray second foray into the world of real-life scandals. His previous outing, Shattered Glass, about a reporter who make up stories, has been more effective. Although there is an undeniable fascination related to the Hanssen case, the issue is not on its own cinema. Although there are some moments of high (and higher rates), the psychological games played by the two leads, there is a feeling that it could do better than the documentary film. This material is not an energetic, and the nature of the relationship are not sufficiently developed in order to provide a consistently engrossing film. Cooper powerful presence elevates the film when it on the screen, but the rest of the mediocre material to suffer in his absence. Phillippe struggles mightily to capture the attention of the camera when it on their own, and he could not do it. Violation is a competently made, but other than Cooper activities, there is nothing to get excited about.
