The Bone Collector is a dark mystery / thriller that takes its characters and its audience on twisted hike in benighted places and abandoned tunnels, where the sun never shone. For those who believe Bringing Out the Dead portrait of New York City was grim, The Bone Collector is one better, turning the city into a nightmare, gothic territory, where almost very evil feeling can be felt in all corners. Director Phillip Noyce, best known for helming the two Harrison Ford / Tom Clancy movies (Patriot Games and Clear and Present threat), chooses to follow in the footsteps of David Fincher. Those who have seen Seven recognize similarities - widely available shade, a few rounds in the daytime, and some interesting camera angles. This method is used to develop a growing sense of danger, and it is good to achieve that goal. Seven did it better, but Noyce adoption of this approach is far from amateurish. Accompanied by cinematographer Dean Semler (which, ironically, is best known lensing Dances with Wolves, which, in terms of style, is the polar opposite of this film), Noyce uses to create an atmosphere of tension.

Films about serial killers could easily turn the operation, titillating viewers with graphic displays of blood and gore. The Bone Collector, which was based on a novel by Jeffrey Deaver, is not included in this category; Noyce intention is not for us to revel in the activities of the murderer, but also to be sent back to them. Despite the grim nature and clear, The Bone compilation contains a strong element of old-fashioned detective mystery stories. Throughout the picture, Rome lies motionless in bed, puzzling over the clues and trying to determine where the killer is going to strike next. There, more than a little Sherlock Holmes in his composition, and his opponent is the perfect Moriarty - smart, demented and dangerous. From this perspective, Amelia can be considered almost in Rome Dr. Watson.

Of course, the relationship between Rome and Amelia is more complicated than that Holmes and Watson. Moreover, much deeper than the typical mentor / student bonds.
