Born on the Fourth of July

Ron Kovic grows in Massapequa, Long Island, as the eldest son of A and P manager, and his wife is very religious Catholic. A natural athlete, he surpasses in high school sports. A proud patriot, Covic tells his parents that he is willing to lay down their lives for their country.

All his dreams of the romance and glory of war destroyed, but when he is sent to Vietnam. There, he inadvertently kills innocent children and the Marine from his unit. The number of wounded in battle, he returned home in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the chest down. For a while he lived with his family, and leave his love of America channels-it or leave-it philosophy. But soon Covic sinks in alcoholic depression. He travels to Mexico, where he is happening face to face with his own bitterness and self-destructiveness in the person of the disabled another veterinarian. Kovic decides to turn his life around.

The path to self-renewal and political radicalization begins with a visit to Georgia, where he confesses his guilt to the family of the Marine he was wounded. He then connected with the organization of Vietnam veterans against the war, and led demonstrations in the 1972 Republican National Convention in Miami. The film ends just before Covic is to give a speech at the 1976 Democratic Convention in New York.

Born on the Fourth of July, on the basis of Ron Kovic autobiography in 1976, is an explosive, episodic and emotionally riveting film director Oliver Stone, who won the Oscar for best director. Tom Cruise gives a nearly perfect work in a lead role, capturing all changes to this all-American boy who proudly went to fight in Vietnam as a Marine and returned in the character’s own words, as “Day of Remembrance and on wheels.” Stone and Covic , who wrote the script, so that the experience of this young man as the epitome of damaged lives, bodies and souls of others who served in Vietnam. Born on the Fourth of July for people whose traditional patriotism was ambushed by this terrible war and reborn in a political protest.
