Boogeyman
The only thing scary about the Boogeyman is purely inability of the “movie” on the display. Disappointingly predictable and mind-numbingly stupid, this dud of supernatural thriller completely lacking in originality. Director Stephen T. Kay, the crack responsibility for the terrible last Get Carter, it seems, believe that the shadowy cinematography and cheap scares galore will hide the fact that it is shot full of holes Boogeyman plot. There is not horror movie cliches, it does not use-often-repeated in a desperate attempt to raise goose bumps, but it is almost entirely in vain. Marginally better than the one in the dark (again, that it was not?), Boogeyman is another item to the south of horror flick that will not be able to deliver the goods spooky.
Second, wrongly trying to parlay the success of its small screen stardom in the film, former 7th Heaven heartthrob Barry Watson headlines Boogeyman (his follow-up to 2002 in heavy Sorority Boys). He portrays Time, a twentysomething editor of torture nightmarish memories of childhood. Fifteen years ago, snatched the title character’s father Tim, who had never seen. While his lower believes Tim organized this fantastic story in response to being abandoned by his father, Tim still gets jittery around the bedroom cupboards (in Boogeyman lair). When his mother (Lucy Lawless) dies, Tim returns to his children at home insulation to resist his concerns. But, as he and his old friend Kate (Emily Deschanel) to detect, the Boogeyman is a very real hunger and more victims.
Perhaps most surprising about the Boogeyman is that the horror genre specialist Sam Raimi has a sense of this production. It’s hard to believe that the director who gave us this impudent entertaining Evil Dead films would put his name in the Boogeyman, which features characters so relentlessly stupid that they practically development of people with disabilities. Certainly, the narrative logic and consistency were probably not high on the moviemakers’ priority list when it came to Boogeyman-just big opening weekend grosses from the mouth before placing in circulation. And there are always very slim possibility that in the movie Boogeyman be tongue in cheek exercise as Scream. But it is very doubtful, given the scenario of witlessness. Moreover, the Boogeyman commits the cardinal sin of horror-film to be boring, in a supernatural villain who barely registers on the fright-o-meter. Unlike, say, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street or the name of a character in the underrated Candyman, the Boogeyman was uncertain lackluster presence. There is not satisfying explanation for the Boogeyman, or why he zeroes in on Tim. Eventually, it is simply not a special effect, which must We were in a closet.
In fairness, Boogeyman is not completely devoid of merit. But other than Bobby Bukowski met in the film industry, the only bright spot in this bleak flick is Emily Deschanel (Zooey in older sister), who received attractive directness and husky voice. She deserves better than the Boogeyman and is us.
