Blades of Glory

Will Ferrell may be the most maddening of comics. There are times when it hurts so ridiculous it is to watch it. Then there are times when it is so unfunny it is painful in a different way. The sequence, Your name is not Ferrell. Blades of Glory very much at Talladega Nights skates. It makes for figure skating, which previously made a film for NASCAR - down to the placement of product. There are funny bits on the film set, but in general is a bit of yawn. Blades of Glory is weak satire that does not do much that in a critical or interesting, and tame PG-13 rating raunchiness kept under control.

Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Jon Heder) are polar opposites and off the ice. Chazz is a free rolling stone. He did not coach, and his hallmark is that it is sex addicts (as he says just about everyone). Jimmy is graceful and technically adept, but his routine lack of passion. When these two bitter rivals tie for the gold medal, they eventually participated in the brawl, which results in them banned for life from the men’s competition. That’s when Coach (Craig T. Nelson, in familiar territory), is a brilliant, offbeat idea: to put them together and put them as a pair of skaters. The fact that both men will allow them to move away as ever attempted. As reigning king and queen of ice, and Stranz Fairchild Van Waldenberg (Will Arnett and Amy Poehler), not like a threat to their superiority, and to take measures to short-circuit it.

Maybe the problem with the Blades of Glory is that it has too many Saturday Night Live stars. For the most part, they are not funny on TV, and they do not have greater success here. All mugging for the camera, bad timing, and intentionally exaggerated hand gestures and body not doing much for me, not from the pratfalls and gross gags (like Jimmy lapping up toilet paper to leave a public toilet floor - and a sense of this scene has been significantly reduced in the semis display of good taste). Or perhaps the problem is that there is enough material here cheerful picture, but not for a full length movie. This one said that one of the directors Josh Gordon and Will Speck are making their debut after the partnership functions at the two previous comedy shorts.

One might expect that to ensure slam-Dance, because many aspects of competitive skating ripe for satire. (Where Dick Button?) No Ferrell in the daggers are duller edge than his skates, and his approach as flabby in the stomach, he displays with great pride. At some level, he wants us as characters, so he never takes things too far. This makes for comedy, not bite. This is a snoozefest that looks pallid in comparison with some of the most daring and outrageous comedies have graced the screen in recent times. (I am thinking in particular Borat, who showed no fear.)

Commenting on the technical ability of the low budget comedy, probably no mention of his dramatic integrity, but the effects work and editing in Blades of Glory especially the poor, especially in times of driving on skates sequences. Perhaps part of the joke, it is anticipated that all figures in the movie is godawful, and obviously false, but the fact that you can see where computer animation film shoots embodied ability make us laugh. This is rectified in a few Chazz and Jimmy final skate, which shows some creativity and humor, but it is a small fraction of the time spent on the ice.

In the gay jokes are surprisingly minimal, although the implication that they can not be ignored. Ferrell represents masculinity in its most crude, and Jon Heder, who, more than ever condemned to live down the character to the role of Napoleon Dynamite gets effeminate mannerisms and female characteristics. It is ironic that a simple film like skating in advance has been more successful games with gay stereotypes than comedy Blades of Glory. And that leads us to film the central flaw: it is not ridiculous to be worth the price of admission. With these signs, Blades of Glory is not going to win a lot of championships.
