The Big Lebowski
In short, “Big Lebowski this disorder. But what a glorious, perfectly-entertaining mess it is. This film, the Coen brothers follow-up to the critically-lauded Fargo, could not create the same degree of universal praise. Essentially, These expects something in the same direction in 1997 Oscar candidate may be disappointed. Big Lebowski is an off on the wall comedy that has more in common with Raising Arizona than in Fargo. single Her weakness, and that is a little smaller distraction, is that it not so plot, and what is a sort of gaping holes that even the most obtuse viewer can identify.
Of course, the Coens have never done the same thing twice in a row, so it should not be so surprising about that Big Lebowski is so far from Fargo. Nevertheless, the brothers’ unique style is a lot of evidence, if anything, it may be more pronounced here. It is a strange picture, but I use the term in vogue kindest, because all these quirkiness adds to the level of delightful humor that Several films this side of a Monty Python enterprises can match. This comic amusement park ride - a wildly uneven film that offers great pleasure in the moment, even if it does not stand up to examination and to the analysis and study.
In the Coens, we start with the introduction of its latest hero, The Dude (Jeff Bridges), and bottom-of-, drifting unemployed who are still living mentally v’60 s. It holds its days of moping around his apartment, does nothing and puffing on the joints. In rare cases, it makes its way to a bowling league for the game in two of his best friends: Walter (John Goodman), a Polish Catholic Jew who still suffer from post-traumatic stress from his days in Vietnam, and Donny (Steve Buscemi), a gentle moron. In most cases, however, The Dude is content to stay at home, so he is known as “the laziest man in Los Angeles County. That is, until the group of inept crooks confuse it with Big Lebowski (David Huddleston), one of the richest urban businessmen.
It seems that Bunny Lebowski (Tara Reid), “Big Lebowski in the decorative wife obligated a lot of money on porn producer Jackie Treehorn (Ben Gazzara). Tryhorn mistake in the men’s Dude (whose real name is also Lebowski) for their quarry - and he accepts them some time to realize their mistakes (not Rhodes scholars). Razdrazheny that his carpet was destroyed by the intruders, The Dude is arranging a meeting with the “Big Lebowski for compensation. But things did not go as planned. Soon, The Dude finds himself at Lebowski wage as a man with a bag of ransom for his kidnapped wife employer. But still thinks Walter pragmatic In Dude should keep the money. Maude Lebowski (Julianne Moore), “Big Lebowski’s daughter, wants the money returned to their families. Meanwhile, some innocent thief steals a car in Dude, where money is stored. And, to top matters off, there is some doubt whether Banny really in danger.
Most of the humor comes from the inability alone At Dude. This guy is not a bad choice for the treatment of ransom drop in the kidnapping, he most choices. He fully loser, and his friends no better. Walter is a pistol-crazy lunatics, which threatened to withdraw cheater bowling, and Donny in a vacuum to the brain. Ultimately, The Dude, Walter and Donny are the kinds of guys who are at home in the Coen Brothers film, but it will be wildly off-site elsewhere (including in the real world). In addition to these three, there are a number of colorful supporting characters, including more playful-on-top John Turturro in bowler named Jesus.
When it comes to bowling, the Coens the more laughs in a few scenes than can be found throughout the Kingpin (a “bowling comedy”). Increased even deeper into its own surrealistic world of the bizarre, the brothers use the arena for stage parody Busby Berkeley musicals. It’s called Gutterballs and its features, among other things, dancing with Julianne Moore in a strange, Viking-like costume, Saddam Hussein renting bowling shoes, and Jeff Bridges stuck inside the ball, looking at.
One of the things I appreciated the most about Big Lebowski makes a mockery of the narrative voice. Readers of my reviews know that this is one of my pet peeves, so a great pleasure to watch the film, which opened this approach satirized. Big Lebowski is narrated at Sam Elliot, but in the course of his self-consciously long-winded opening monologue (in which he introduces V Dude), he suddenly loses his train of thought, and said as many spectators. It is rare that any film narrator uses for comic effect, rather than on unnecessary exposition.
Again, the Coens chose to cast them well. With long hair, beard, sunglasses, and NGOs vapid expressions, Jeff Bridges is perfect, as always-stoned Dude. Clean-cut and militant, John Goodman in the profanity-spewing Walter is a delightfully leave his rocker. Steve Buscemi for one and the relatively low-key role. As Maud, Julianne Moore the opportunity to walk on the wild side. And David Huddleston plays Lebowski, as Mr. Potter From This Wonderful Life, wheelchair and all.
Problems with the plot in spite of this, “Big Lebowski is considered one of the most audacious comedy recent years. Coens jokes keep coming, even though some of them are so thin they can easily be missed (for example, when V Dude writes a check for 69 cents). Profane , outrageous, and without obstacles, the Big Lebowski further cements in the Coens’ reputation for independent film.
