The Big Hit
The Big Hit exhibits many of the same characteristics as the most over-on-top position in the Hong Kong action / comedy genre, which should not be surprising, given that the director (Che-Kirk Wong), as executive producer (John Woo) made its reputation abroad for the kinds of films. The Big Hit is as irreverent as parodies come and exhibits significantly more power than tired, pun-filled Naked Gun clones. This film is not afraid of going into the field of bad taste - indeed, it is transferred to it. There must be in something in the Big Hit offend just about everyone, but the film is bold enough that I found myself becoming sporadic entertainment of his cheerful, cartoonish spoofing.
The Big Hit the lead character is incredibly named Melvin Smiley (Mark Wahlberg, is the latest in prosthetic Boogie Nights). He hit man who killed about 100 people, but suffers from unwanted weakness for someone in his position: “I can not stand the idea of someone not like me.” Melvin has a complicated personal life - he is engaged to be married to a ditzy blond (Christina Applegate), and has a black girlfriend (Lela Rochon) on the side. Their financial demands put him in debt, so he joined his buddies, Cisco (Lou Diamond Phillips), Crunch (Bokeem Woodbine), Gump (Robert Dunne), and Winnie (Antonio Sabato Jr.), in the kidnapping scheme. They lift Keiko (China Chow), the student-age daughter quite a bankrupt Japanese businessman (Sab Shimono). Unfortunately, it also happens as a crime goddaughter Mr. Paris (Avery Brooks), and Melvin in Cisco boss. To save itself, Cisco is turning against the rest of the gang, going to him one-on-one. Meanwhile, Keiko and sensitive Melvin fall in love and plan to run away together.
The plot is absurd and acting gently refers to one of two categories: the way to the top, or simply awful. Mark Wahlberg give bad as Melvin. His rather bland image on the hitman will not be able to activate some comic scenes, which should have been funnier. Lou Diamond Phillips is the perfect villain for the movie too: it looks like he took lessons from a scenery chewing Dennis Hopper or Gary Oldman. Christina Applegate, Lainie Kazan, and Elliot Gould all irritatingly bad, but I think that really the point. I do not think that a movie was Oscar nominations in mind when dropped out of the three. Chou visiting China is only one who shows any promise, and that is not saying much.
The Big Hit widely variable in the comedy - some of it funny, clever, and some of them are tired and familiar. During the 90-minute film is time, Big Hit ethnic caricatures gives us a drama-on-top car chases, and jokes related to vomit, mutilated body parts, masturbation, hara-kiri, video store clerks, high-tech call tracking methods , chicken stuffing and King Kong Lives (perhaps one of the worst films of all time). How often do you laugh, likely depends on several factors: the mood, your tolerance for humor ugly, and your willingness to ignore Wahlberg in wooden performance and the lack of chemistry with his female co-stars.
Wong directs The Big Hit with more flair than material may deserve. This is a colorful, kinetic images that will never bear even threatened viewer suffers from attention deficit disorder. There are many shoot-outs and other action sequences, and although none of them suspenseful and thrilling that they are properly noisy. I watched most of them as a more general takeoffs on testosterone and adrenaline sequences, and see at this level they work. The film also some fun showing (through instant replay) the way people live in action films by unsurvivable situations. What is less serious things, the better they work. As with low intelligence entertainment goes, this film is very hit-and-miss affair.
