Blackbeard
The real Blackbeard raid ships up and down in the Carolina and Virginia coasts, in his ship, Queen Anne’s Revenge. Scientists have access to the captain’s journal entries, which, in their view, show that Blackbeard would shoot his own ship, if it was boring, and to keep his people liquored rum, or they would revolt. The real Blackbeard bribe North Carolina governor pardoned him after he was taken prisoner when his ship ran aground near Cape Fear. This mini-series is another. Governor Eden (Richard Chamberlain) is actually in cahoots with the pirates and strike the same deal with Blackbeard that he had with his predecessor, Captain Hornigold (Stacy Keach).
Blackbeard was one bad dude and complex, and this show, makes no attempt to hide it. There, in a very realistic veneer for the entire production, although pirates wearing black jackets and bandanas might remind you a bit of hell ’s Angels than in the early 18 century thugs. The fight scenes are not the usual round-hop scene you see in the case of pirated movies. In “Blackbeard” is to go directly through the sword guy instead of catching it from where you know the guy is simply clutching a sword between his body and hands. But there are also less swashbuckling. The fighting and killing is a basic and minimalist as it gets, which is in line with the level of realism in this revisionist pirate saga.
