Bedazzled
With director Harold Ramis, the man behind such well-loved to laugh types of vehicles as Caddyshack and Day, Bedazzled was allegedly comedy that doubled as a study in mediocrity. Not only this film stubbornly unfunny, but it has consistently uninvolving. To be fair to Rami, I am prepared to accept that the Bedazzled wrongfully failed to do - it is simply not very entertaining. This is the kind of unremarkable production, which will be kept with the average spectator for approximately five seconds after he or she exits the theater. This film has no endurance, and, outside Brendan Fraser easygoing charm, there is little to recommend it.
Based on the 1967 human comedy starring Dudley Moore, Bedazzled set in contemporary San Francisco, where we meet Elliot (Fraser), a sad, desperate, pathetic losers. “We all know someone like Elliot - innocent people, not social skills who work so hard to win a location with the people, and eventually, as a result of being despised. Eliot afar is infatuated with one of his colleagues, a woman named Allison (Frances O’Connor, looking as young Barbara Hershey) , which he believes unapproachable - until he was confronted with the sexy, well-dressed vamp who claims to be the Devil (Elizabeth Hurley). In exchange for his soul, Elliot seven wishes will be granted, any of which could join it with Ellison. transaction That he could not refuse, but is not willing to do its part, as he expected, and he quickly learns to hand down associated with the rich and powerful, star basketball player, the winner of the Pulitzer Prize author, and President of the United States.
Bedazzled, devoid of any tension, notwithstanding that the drama, comedy and romance. The movie lumbers aimlessly from one skit to another. Personality changes so frequently that it was difficult to understand the nature of any of the individuals. There is not only one Elliot - there are about seven of them, and they do not seem to be the same person. The only reason we ultimately care about Elliot of all this because Fraser such a likable actor. Without his call, Bedazzled, it would be an exercise in tedium.
As the devil, Elizabeth Hurley, certainly enjoyed himself. Indeed, it seems that it is much more interesting to play the part, we in watching her. Of course, she looks great (it is not always?), I have moments when she sinks her teeth into the role with great pleasure, but, in general, it is not very reliable, Lucifer. She could not find the right tone and its timing is sometimes off. She can not seem to decide whether it is better to act sweet and seductive pole or her way through the entire movie. Even in comedy, features need more than a split and a large set of gams.
The third member of the leading trio, Frances O’Connor (Fanny in the past Mansfield Park “), easily the least interesting. Course, as it was stuck in the thankless role of personality-deprived love interest, this is not surprising. However, will not be able to consistently O’Connor force us to notice it. most part, it just fades against the backdrop of a large part of the stage, emerging only when it is required to make certain that two of dialogue. This film might be better served if there was some evidence of chemistry between O’Connor and Fraser, but even at its most romantic, their interaction is clinical.
Bedazzled has gathered a number of miscalculations. To that Rami thinks are funny - such as rivulets of sweat pouring out of a basketball player in person - does not work, and saccharine sweet ending the strike the wrong note. Of course, one can argue that the conclusion (complete with a moral, that everything must be convenient to who they are) suitable for this kind of bland material, and I think any action in this. The bulk of Bedazzled no edge, so why not last ten minutes, all smiles and obodrites? Rami was the opportunity to make this film because of the financial success of its previous director to seek, Analyze this. But if he can better do is re-engineer to make a lame nesovershennoletnego’60 s comedy, it should come back to the drawing board. Only cinematically blind likely to be glittering in the effort.
