Balto III - Wings of Change
I kinda liked to “Balto, was mildly ambivalent to the” Balto II, and now could not care less about “Balto: Wings of Change”. This latest direct-to-video continued courtesy is unlikely to pick up where “II” left output - Balto daughter, the star of the last movie, is interesting missing here - and instead of chugs along, as if made for children who received more movies at all.
Which is fine, I think. My own daughter, although not too pleased with the film, was not annoyed by it, and she dug a bit, saying that the dogs - that is sufficient to low standards Continuation video format. Parents, however, should be warned to be bored to tears, if you are lucky enough to have a child requires that you lease / purchase of the DVD, remember to bring a book, or perhaps use the time to clean the fish tank.
On wings of change here (no relation to the Scorpions, fortunately), belong to a single one of their new-planes, one of which has operations in Nome, Alaska, in the winter of 1928. Pilot (voiced Keith Carradine) proposes to take the urban-mail — which threatens jobs at the local sled dogs. this in spite of the completely obvious that the planes faster than dogs, the townspeople create problems: race between the plane and the sled, the winner is granted work mail carrier.
This sounds less stupid in the movie, if only slightly so. There are some good affects added, including Balto own fascination with aircraft, and its desire to see our own time to do what they do (even if its “Road to the Future”, the line reminded me too much of “The Aviator”). There is some family quarrel between business Balto (Maurice LaMarche) and son Code (Sean Astin), which, while not remarkable in no case is not that bad, really. And so, with a spirit of the series, but not ends in a dangerous rescue mission, even if it sloppily added to the story, it works on its own. Kids’ll be moved easily enough.
Where the film stumbles - and difficult - in its attempts comedy. A lot of strange subplot involving Russian Boris goose (Charles Fleischer), and foul sexed activities (Jean Smart), which has the hots for him. Seeing such a thing is off-putting, to say the least. Then this elk that he thinks Robert De Niro, which is even less funny than it sounds. Oh, and Pesci elk appears only to help sell the gag. Yawns.
But, as I said, children who have lower tolerance crap than we adults will rest here. This forgettable cartoon entertainment, workable time-passer. But it is also a mediocre movie, with very little in his favor. “Wings of Change” is one of those video efforts, which will disappear too quickly, and if you are unable to catch him before he disappeared from memory, so you may not be missing much at all.
