Artificial Intelligence:AI
Expectations were high, so perhaps unreasonably, on AI, the first - and only - movie bear monikers heavyweights in the film Stanley Kubrick and Steven Spielberg. Nevertheless, while MA consistently involving, and the time - and-shine, it is far from being a masterpiece. Indeed, as the long-awaited “cooperation” of Kubrick and Spielberg, he took as a disappointment. Plus, the film may end up lagging behind industry scientists husbands’ high cash predictions. MA should be enough to join the $ 100 million club, but it is unlikely to have the necessary impact on the pace of some rampaging animated ogre.
Currently, the story of AI is known. Kubrick was nursemaiding this project together for nearly two decades, in anticipation of the time when technology can produce visual effects at the level demanded his perfectionism. Over the years, he spoke at some length with Spielberg on AI, and, after his death, Spielberg decided to shepherd the project to completion. To that end, he was trying to wed his own style for Kubrick’s. In the late master’s name appears in the opening credits (a film presented as “Agenda Amblin / Stanley Kubrick production), and brother-in-law and Kubrick in a long time executive producer, Jan Harlan, is listed as one of the two Executive Producers.
I can not help but wonder if the internal conflict, Kubrick and Spielberg life views for this reason AI seemed so scattered and uneven. Kubrick was a bleak, cynical view of human nature. (What else can be said about a person of A Clockwork Orange and Eyes Wide Shut?) Spielberg, on the other hand, is optimistic. AI shows both sides, and not always a good effect. It is in times of life and confirmed positive, and in others, cold and gloomy. The film is the final half-hour curiosity, and not a successful one - a long, unnecessary epilogue which force-feeds us catharsis that feels as false as it applies to the rest of a fine story. There is no doubt that all of the final 30 minutes of Spielberg; unresolved issue where Kubrick vision stopped, and began to Spielberg.
AI is the science fiction re-interpretation of “Pinocchio” (a story of the film often references) crossed with “Frankenstein.” The action takes place in the futuristic setting, where the rise of the oceans has spent seaside cities like New York and Amsterdam, New Jersey, where one recalls the Amazon rain forest, and when the sin-and-sex planet at the center of a place called Rouge - City, which is located across Delaware from New Jersey (perhaps it is precisely in Philadelphia). That future is to imagine Spielberg and his set designers, each bit in awe-inspiring as that Ridley Scott brought to the screen in Blade Runner, and the fact that Luc Besson developed for Fifth Element. Rouge City is overwhelming, and Manhattan flooded ruins are hauntingly beautiful.
History centers around David (Haley Joel Osment), a child substitute “fur”, which is the first of its type - a synthetic that can truly love. In this case, the object it is not fully understandable emotion is the “mother”, Monica Swinton (Frances O’Connor). Monica husband, Henry (Sam Robards), which resulted in David’s home as a pilot project from his workplace, Cybertronics New Jersey, a more careful in the robot child. And when one of David’s actions posed a threat to Monica and the natural son of Henry Martin (Jake Thomas), Monica has to take David in the woods and “lose” him. He quickly found a group of anti-robot fanatics, and at the same time in their captivity, he befriends Gigolo Joe (Jude Law), which will be an invaluable ally in his escape.
As in real life science around the development of artificial intelligence, the film top heavy moral and ethical issues. What is life and where is the dividing sentience of the planned response? If the robot can truly love the person that makes that responsibility falls to the person who is the answer? As immortal robot longer cope with their creators organic? Writers from Mary Shelley to Isaac Asimov were fascinated by these dilemmas. (The movie Bicentennial Man, which explores similar areas, based on Asimov penned-pc.) Perhaps Spielberg attempts too much with AI To some extent, trying to solve all these issues, he is not able to provide any of them. Plot threads are dropped at an alarming rate.
AI This ambitious film that when he misses its mark, doing so because it is fighting for so much. The script does not insult the audience intelligence, and it will be to think about “big issues”, such as love, life, god, and our place in the universe. It is unfortunate that so many thought did not go into the description of the structure of the development went to the thematic content of the film. And those who have come to equate science fiction with the action will be disappointed. AI is a drama with little in the way of adrenalin-raising sequences. Spielberg deliberately slowed things down, relying on viewers’ curiosity about ideas and identify with the characters that they participate in the proceedings.
Acting as is usually the case with Spielberg film, is the top slots. Osment, who remains best known see dead people in The Sixth Sense is compelling as Pinocchio-like David. He attached to the robotic nature of genuine humanity, but slightly exaggerating some of his mannerisms and vocal inflections, constantly reminds us that David is not right. All of this is not a veiled herky-jerky movements, and he does not speak in monotone. Frances O’Connor (Australian actress who starred in Mansfield Park “) is a reliable, as a contradiction Monica. And, in the part of Gigolo Joe, an android to women’s pleasure, Jude Law alive and sprightly. Dour-V always plays William Hert David creator (he also serves as a sounding board for the most part, the film exhibits - it offers few long wordy speeches). There are also numerous vocal cameos, including those, such as Robin Williams and Ben Kingsley.
So AI Kubrick film or a Spielberg production? Since the movie, which suffers from a split personality the event, could not seem to make up his opinion about how are we supposed to? Perhaps the more relevant question is whether this is worth seeing. The answer is that, for all its potential is not enough and truncated subplots, there is enough value in AI to make it a fascinating experience.
