Antwone Fisher

In his debut director, Denzel Washington is using basic methods to tell the story of a movie that, while common, at times deeply moving. In the autobiography of Antwone Fisher (Derek Luke), who wrote the script, is a creative story that uses the theme of family, courage and the will to overcome it as building blocks. It’s easy to argue that Washington in a relatively simple approach (he uses a traditional camera placement, uncomplicated shots, and from the point of view of history, to do nothing more radical than hire frequent outbreaks) is ideally suited for the material. The result speaks for itself.

When we first meet Antwone, it is one soldier Navy, which is prone to outbreaks of uncontrolled anger. One such incident earns his demotion in rank and visit the psychiatrist Jerome Davenport (Denzel Washington), which must determine whether Antwone fit to continue serving his country. First, Antwone and Jerome had frosty relations. In the end, however, the doctor and non-confrontational approach through Antwone breaks silence, and he starts on about his past. Born in prison to convict a mother abandoned him Antwone spent the first two years of his life in an orphanage. He then moved to a foster family in, and physically, emotionally and sexually abused until the battle willfulness got expelled from his home. After staying in school reform, and the short period of life on the street, he joined the Navy.

In a short time, Jerome Antwone becomes a surrogate father, a man whose biological parents died before he was born. The young man is also beginning to cultivate relationships with the prior Cheryl (Joy Bryant), a girl he had been appealing for some time. Eventually, Jerome said that in his search for Antwone close relatives. He reasons that only by placing Antwone they are free to act in such a way that he can go on his life.

In a strange way, Antwone Fisher is coming at the age of the story. Even though the hero is in his mid-twenties, in the movie contains detailed information on measures taken by them to gain control of its present and the future for the next deal with its past. This is a familiar story, but seemed very sympathetic and intellect. Antwone, as shown on the screen in an impressive debut for actor Derek Luke, a symbol richer than the traditional male figure who finds himself, and this is one of the most powerful films. A flat Antwone would make the production seem complicated and unnecessary.

The two main supporting characters played by Joy Bryant and Washington. Bryant did not know better, that Luke (it is her second film, and it was a small role in the Robert De Niro / Eddie Murphy comedy, Showtime), but, like him, it gives good performance. Most important, Bryant and Luke show a natural chemistry. Washington willingly allows his character to remain largely in the background. Actor in a calm, low-key performance in contrast to the kind of emotional, intense work he usually does in front of the camera.

There are several cases where Antwone Fisher crosses the line to become too syrupy. (One of these cases occurring during the speech used for the completion of the film.) For the most part, however, production radiates emotional honesty. Some of these events in real life, Fisher story may have been fictionalized for the sake of creating a narrative, but there’s little doubt that this is a story of courage will find real human benefit almost everyone who sees it.
