Angel Heart
History is set in 1955 and includes the PI, Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) hired by a mysterious stranger named Louis Cyphre (Robert DeNiro) to find Johnny Favourite, who welshed on a debt he must Mr. Cyphre. The only information that Angel has is that the man is expected to be in a hospital in upstate New York, the non-return of the traumatic wartime accident. The plot is complicated angel as a man of his tracks in New Orleans and meetings voodoo magic, murder, and ends abruptly. Unfortunately, only part of the way in the movie, I come to recognise the story, as I read in a magazine (obviously taken from a book or expanded later in the book). Although I remember feeling that history has been one of the most interesting and eerie that I had read, as the secret to solving the mystery might weaken the effect of some of the revelations in the film. I made an attempt to get an unbiased opinion and the impact on the pace of discussions with my companion after viewing who does not know this story.
For this movie to work, it is important that the questions lead to tighter and tighter spiral, the tension should grow, the pace accelerated. Although there may be individual and small buildups releases, as a whole needed a better sense of mystery and danger. In two of these accounts successful movie, and one I think that is not possible. First, the scenario felt tight, but ominously under the key to the next, and each of them is to provide more questions than it answers, up to the slow implementation of the decision. There were a few plot holes, but only one really believes rough, and set near the end, this does not detract from the pace. In addition, the cinematography set the tone that correctly formulated action. Previously, there presentiment permeates the film, the camera will be able to capture a seediness in the vicinity of drab colors and fine details. Unfortunately, the pace has been uneven. Some scenes are dragged for no apparent reason, and some secret cliche were unduly added. The worst crime is mandatory, seemingly horrified that the scene would be a dream. One other point is a dream sequence that seems unnecessary, but this scene is not so much a red herring. I hope that if they change the film that using reasonable film editing to tighten and remove or trim the slow spots. In this film, if you have too much time to think, the film loses. I think that this weakness particularly insulting because director Alan Parker takes pleasure of working screenwriter Alan Parker. I do not know what Alan Parker has been done.
Mickey Rourke does a fine job making an everyman Harry Angel in the IP. Sometimes he would appear to fall too far in the nervous schools operating, but its gradual implementation of the real history is beautifully evoked. Lisa Bonet, shockingly, as sexy, worldly young voodoo priestess. Robert DeNiro reflects the mystery of Louis Cyphre well, but Charlotte Rampling is not given enough opportunities to play its part of the fortune-teller debutante girlfriend of the missing persons.
