The Amityville Horror
What is a studio to do when all the possibilities have been exhausted for the continuation of the brand, which retains the name recognition? Why do last, of course! Thus, we first feature director Andrew Douglas’ take on the events in late 1975, 112 Ocean Avenue (or at least alleged events, as related in Jay Anson in the bestseller). Good news: the 2005 edition is the best film to date on bare title “Amityville” in the title. bad news: there was no real competition. film in 1979 under the same name has been so terrible that it belongs to the category of guilty pleasure, and the various effects (some of which have been directly to video) is one of the worst films of all time.
The house me do it! First, a note on the film, opening inscription, which reads: “Based on the true history.” Nonsense. When Jay Anson book “The Amityville Horror, was published in late 1970 he was not regarded as fiction. When the film arrived in theaters, the chronology of events in Anson is not yet serious. Well, as awful as the first Amityville Horror has been saying that” based on the true history “is a legitimate demand. 26 years later, however, the events of the novel had been debunked. paranormal in the chain of events was revealed to be a hoax dreamed consideration Lutzes (ostensibly to save them from having to pay the mortgage paralysed).” truth “has nothing to do in common with the “Amityville Horror, so the film that be” based on the true history “is unfair and misleading. (See Hidalgo more recent example of this.)
In the version of 2005, better than its 1979 predecessor in every respect except one. The production values and special effects and later acting is at a higher level, and carry more umph scares. Unfortunately, in writing, did not give any improvements. Scott Kosar in the script is offensive to the intelligence, as Sandor Stern was in a quarter-century ago. In the ghost story, the narrative should not be a model of consistency and originality, but it needs the support of scares. In Amityville Horror, in writing is so bad that it distracts from the “boo!” moments and creepy interludes.
The film begins with a brief introduction in 1974 detailed a fictionalized the real events - the murderous rampage of Ronald DeFeo, who used a shotgun to kill the other six members of his family. A year later, George and Kathy Lutz (Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George), the purchase of the house where the atrocities occurred because it sells at astonishingly low prices. With their three children, Billy (Billy Lutz), Michael (Jimmy Bennett) and Chelsea (Chlo l Grace Moretz), in tow, they enter into a dream home. It takes only a few days before the start of bad things happening. George changing personality as his brilliant character morphs into something cruel. Apparitions make appearances and Chelsea meets an imaginary friend who has the same name as one of the girls killed DeFeo. The family dog starts barking in the middle of the night and a local priest (Philip Baker Hall) runs away from home in terror when his attempted exorcism goes wrong.
Girls gone wild Amityville Horror V contains a memorable place. At night, when George and Kathy to go to dinner, they hired babysitter named Lisa (Rachel Nichols) childcare. This girl from the parents’ worst nightmare. She smokes pot in the bathroom, flaunts her sexuality in front of a twelve-year old boy, and delights in Lutz said children on the history of the house. Then it gets locked in a closet with Chelsea in an imaginary friend, Jody, who looks like a refugee from the Ring movies (decay person; long, lank, black hair). What happens thereafter is about as interesting as watching it is possible to have a modern, R-rated horror film.
For the first two-thirds of his time working, The Amityville Horror is an effective ghost story with a lot of things guaranteed to viewers shriek. The atmosphere is right, horror mostly low-key (primarily fleeting glimpses of ghostly images), and the story seems to be creating something. Then comes letdown. In backstory uncovered in the last 20 minutes of silent, and, after that revelation, The Amityville Horror changes in the stalker / slasher film, complete with an axe to stop rice, and on the roof of the race. I thought that in the last reel of Halloween or Friday 13 films.
Despite adolescent unfriendly R-rating, The Amityville Horror should do well with viewers who have become infatuated by the American re-make of Asian horror films (The Ring, Grudge V). This version of the classic Long Island has a history of the house is required, as is much of its cinematic style presentation with halfway around the world, as in the first motion picture of telling tales. In Amityville Horror, not as a movie, but if you are looking for a few good scares, you will find them here. It is a good movie day, if all you are interested, clutching or compressed.
