An American Haunting

Here is the problem with pallid American Haunting horror movie in a nutshell: odd placement of a bottle of vodka far more intriguing than anything else in it. It is truly pitiful state of affairs when something entrancing set of awards proves more than symbols, or any piece of business in the plot.

The story of a 19-century Tennessee family hardships with malevolent spirit is contained in the letter, read by a modern suburban mom living in the same house for almost 200 years later. As a device, it really creaky, and the story it relates, simply run the mill itself demonic possession intertwined with tawdry accents of rape and incest. Much more interesting is that the open-fifth of Absolut is not in sight-glass on the table within easy reach of the woman while she reads. This is a fairly steep. Why days of wine and roses? On this point, because it really reading the letter or whether it simply drunk with DTs? Maybe writer / director Courtney Solomon was simply desperate for product placement dollars, but also make sure that the bottle marked as to suggest a kind of very sloppy movie, the first of many boneheaded moves.

History, ultimately premise is this: is allegedly what happened with the Bell family in Red River, Tennessee, is the only documented case in the history of the United States, where a spirit is directly responsible for someone’s death. Solomon puts it in writing at the beginning, but if someone really dies, it is not the fault of any spirits. This talented poltergeist, which is effective on terror, John Bell (Donald Sutherland), his wife Lucy (Sissy Spacek), son John (Thom Fell), and, in particular, light teenage daughter Betsy (Rachel Hurd-Wood), but when it is that the final act of misconduct, only human intervention will do.

Steady, bells seem to be happy, prosperous family, even if John ports concern that Betsy’s teacher, Richard Powell (James Nicholas Nickelby in D ‘Arcy), has designs on his daughter. But after the church council feels guilty or John on the loan he made to the neighbour Kate Batts (Gaye Brown), the Bells’ fortunes turn quickly. John himself became ill, but it is Betsy who suffer the most deadly kind of spirit visits her at night. On slaps her silly, levitates her, drags her through the floor, and otherwise terrorizing her and the rest of the family. Ioannou is convinced that Kate is a witch who cast a deadly spell, but his wife insisted any evil at home Bell believes it .

This is one of those films that all about the special effects, but Solomon did not have the imagination to come up with any images that are original and new. There are many of them, though they are piled high willy-captivity, as the story becomes more and more ridiculous. This is a half ghost story, at best, dull and unsavory. The younger cast members barely register on the screen, their characters are so poorly defined. This leaves a heavy for Sutherland and Spacek. They are excellent in parts they can certainly play in their sleep, but their presence is also a reminder of the horrors of the Chief of movies and the characters they play in these: Sutherland as another tortured father of Nicholas Roeg not Look Now, as Spacek and really tormented adolescent Currie. For comparison, this is only the weak-American Haunting is less than US humdrum.
