American Pie
With American Pie, that the case of the real situation in dwarfed by the hype. The words of mouth is pegged this as the most raunchy summer movie - a movie that includes a taboo, and pushes its R rating in the MPAA (in fact, up to three rounds of cuts, it was given the NC-17). However, while in the movie is rude, crude and lewd, it is not any new ground. His time of the least acceptable (including beer and body fluids cocktail) is not worse than similar instances of PG-13 Austin Powers Continuation. His most outlandish scenes not exceed envelope-stretching sequences from 1998 in the then Tam O Mary and happiness. Indeed, when it comes to being offensive, it must take second place to another theatrical version of the game. No one will debate that American Pie has the advantage, but it is not as sharp as South Park.
Case gross each, the eccentric and vulgar moment in American Pie is that the audience laugh. First time director Paul Weitz and writer Adam Herz not going for anything remotely intellectual here - they are appealing to the lowest common denominator in all of us. And it works. American Pie always cheerful and sporadically amusing. It should come as a surprise, not one that the best jokes involve some form of sex (including, but not limited to, communication, masturbation, fellatio and cunnilingus). There is one instance of (literal) toilet humor, which the audience in stitches. American Pie will go down to a bad taste in his first place and has the good sense never to rise above that level.
And compared with the then Tam O Mary especially apt. There are only two films offer similar flavors of comedy, but, like Mary, American Pie plays an unexpectedly sweet, romantic backstory. The film is not about all of the turmoil and gross humor, it is time for the development of several characters, which, although certainly not the most three-dimensional people grace the screen, are likable and worth caring about. This aspect of this film is currently missed by those who call him “Porky godov’90 x s.” The only signs of a significant share of American pie and Porky in that they both are members of the Organization of adolescent sex comedy genre, and neither will be endorsed by the conservative film-goers. For, while Porky exploitation flick is loaded with free sex and nudity, that does not serve a purpose, American Pie is the exploitation flick loaded with free sex and nudity that serves a specific purpose: keeping the audience rolling in passageways.
American Pie introduces us to a quartet of men with a major problem: their high school senior year draws to a close, and they are virgins. Jim (Jason Biggs), in the film, supposedly the hero, is an awkward guy who has trouble talking to women. Kevin (Thomas Ian Nicholas), the average member of the group, has been involved in a stable relationship with a beautiful girl, but he keeps stranding runners at third base. Oz (Chris Klein), a dumb jock, decides that the best way to get acquainted with the members of the opposite sex is to join the glee club. And Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), the intellectual, so tightly wound that he would not use the school toilets. In those four egos badly bruised when the evidence suggests that the biggest geek in East Great Falls High had sex in front of them. So they do help each other pact to lose their virginity before graduating, and one specific purpose of the event: Senior Prom.
Each of the children will eventually paired with a girl. For Jim, that this oversexed exchange student named Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth), and if that falls through, that Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), a timid member of the school team. Oz falls for a smart, rather Heather (Mena Suvari), which in general has little time for jocks. Kevin Wiki sustained girlfriend (Tara Reid), whose best friend, Jessica (Natasha Lyonne), encourages her to “do it”. I know Finch, a graduate of why such a popular film.
Without going into many details that it is worth mentioning some of the comic highlights. Some of the best scenes in American Pie involve father-son chats between Jim and his father (Eugene Levy, in peak form). Levy deadpan, matter-of-fact approach plays well, as his character relate to the facts of life to his son desperately ashamed. Pope is not merely to explain the birds and bees, it brings together a number of visual aids (including a copy of Hustler magazine and “Shaved). And, when it seems that Jim finally will get some scoring, Pope-all fingers and encouragement.
Another high point predpolagaet’90 s searches through the peephole. When Jim learns that the attractive young women may end up changing clothes in his bedroom, he installs a digital camera to capture the action and broadcast it on the Web site, that only he and a few friends know about. Of course, nothing goes as planned, and the hilarity stems. While few in the audience will recognize it, crisp editing plays a significant role in the building of comic momentum during this sequence.
Finally, after the exam is “where each participant receives (or is trying to obtain) that they want. While American Pie does not go beyond the unbridled laughter during these scenes (two comic tete-a-tetes are intercut with the two of them romantic) some of the material very funny, even if it was a little predictable. course, to ease any potentially serious subtext, Weitz throws a large dose of outrageousness as the film takes off until its climax.
For the cast, snagged in the Weitz group largely unknown actors. And some of them puffing memory that “I think I saw him / her something before, but, in addition to Natasha Lyonne (The Slums of Beverly Hills) and Eugene Levy, there are no well-known names. And, although no one in American Pie, as poised on the brink of superstardom, each fills its functions properly. Jason Biggs makes a Jim affable, sympathetic figure, Chris Klein (Matthew Broderick candidate in the election) sends Oz “sensitive side, and Tara Reid (Urban legends), some exhibits low power of sex appeal.
The main difference between American Pie, and most other adolescent comedies case flooding theaters these days, there is no-prisoners province. This film is not going to “charm”. He is not trying to earn a PG-13 for maximum impact on the under-17 crowd. He takes risks, they do not always work, but when they do, there are benefits. And, aside from the elections (and perhaps inept Cruel Intentions), no recent film set in high school, this was frank about sex. There, nothing stupid about the film call. For those who think the moral standard Hollywood picture is sharp declines, the American Pie provides evidence to support the theory. For almost everyone else, that this is the fault (or, in some cases, not so guilty) pleasure.
