Alien
The first thing one address, watching foreigners is the lack of adolescent movie cast. Currently, the idea to make a horror movie, which is not peppered with nubile adolescents almost anathema among Hollywood creative types. Alien is an adult, trying to solve the problem in a real way, not lucky coincidence or deus-ex-machina type of event, waiting to save the day.
Describing an alien plot, probably on this controversial issue, but here it is. The crew of the Nostromo comes back to Earth after a long mission, when the spacecraft computer awakes from hypersleep. It turns out that a lifeform has been identified on a nearby planet, with the result that forced the crew to investigate. Although one such crew member (memorably played by John Hert) explores the terrain, unusual creature attaches itself to his face. The rest, as they say, is history.
One of the main differences between foreigners and most of today’s horror flicks - and for that reason he was able to remain relevant after all these years - is the emphasis on mood and atmosphere above all else. From the very beginning, with the ominous tour through the Nostromo, it is quite clear that director Ridley Scott is not interested in creating another piece-’em-and-bone-’ em scary movies. Scott, as well as scenarios, Dan O’Bannon and Ronald Shussett, toys with the audience, allowing almost half of the film to pass before we even see a foreigner - Tightening bolts and save us in suspense, even when nothing happens. Because the movie is called a foreigner, even if were going to the cinema fresh, it would be impossible, not the anxiety hanging over you, you know, that the alien meets the floating (no pun intended), at some point, it’s just question of when.
And this makes the film so great. This is not interested in an address to the MTV generation, which will undoubtedly require a faster and more gore (not to mention a more revealing look at the full maturity, the foreigner). But Scott film allows events to unfold deliberately, giving us the opportunity to learn these seven characters much more intimately than one would expect from such films. By the time the massacre begins, we have come to really care about these people - to the point where it is impossible not to experience a twinge of loss as soon as they begin the release of the picture. And while we do not really know all that much about their individual traditions - well, okay, we do not know anything about their pasts - it is jovial dialogue and win turn, the performances that these potential stereotypes into fully realized characters (and not bland cardboard cut-outs). And none of the crew members, all the answers, they became afraid and confused, and how to behave in the way any normal person would be in such an absurd situation.
Although some special effects, not age, that all good (and this has never been more evident that the alien has only one guy in the rubber suit), is not something that one can stop. The film is proof that computer graphics are not always necessary, as the shots of the Nostromo lumbering through space, perhaps more realistic-looking than anything in the ghost threat. It is in this sense of realism that, in fact, strengthened the status of a foreigner as a sci-fi/horror classics. Seeing it on the big screen especially profitable, and, of course, leads to hope that the trend continues Fox, and provides superior Aliens similar re-release.
