Air Force One
Air Force One Das Boot director Wolfgang Petersen, the third major Hollywood films are characterized by top American star. (For the record, the previous two in the line of fire and flash.) One aspect under Petersen studio pictures is that he does not have any difficulty to get A-list talent (Clint Eastwood, Dustin Hoffman, Harrison Ford) to work for him , and there are reasons for this. After watching Air Force One, I am sure that Petersen is one of the best action / thriller directors working today. The fact is that astonishes me most is how much he can cull so little. Petersen took a scenario, which can best be described as idiotically ludicrous, and, with that thin and lame-brained skeleton caused a moderately entertaining movie. In the hands of a trick, the Air Force can be turned into a major embarrassment. With this, the movie is a roller coaster ride for those who prefer not to think, after the theater lights have dimmed.
Even the most energetic and original solutions to the film is likely to foster a sense of deja vu. This is the nature of the genre - in the end, there is only so much how to blow things and stage shoot-outs. So it is not surprising that about 95% of the air force, as a friend - the film is clearly a derivative of Die Hard and Executive Decision. In an irony here is that the action hero is not a down-on-his-luck cop or anti-terrorism PhD, he President of the United States. And, although the script appears to have been written with Steven Segal in mind, the film snagged bodies Harrison Ford. How? Well, I think, can be of two possible reasons. First, a big paycheck can be done almost any role, looks appealing. Secondly, most American actors are likely to yearn for the opportunity to play the president (Ronald Reagan look at …).
Because Ford tariff, as the latest big screen Commander-in-Chief? Better than analogues Bill Pullman (Independence Day), Ronny Cox (murder in 1600), and Sam Waterston (The Shadow Conspiracy), but not to the level of Michael Douglas (The American President), or Jean Hackman (Absolute Power). Ford to James Marshall is an appropriate and decisive charismatic, but he is too good to be true. He has a code of ethics, and when he said, the stomach-churningly saccharine stuff like “Never again will I allow political self-interest to deter us to do something that morally right, it actually means it. Ford could be a good actor, but even he could not force us to swallow a fantastic character like this.
The storyline is of a general nature. The military partnership between the United States and Russia have led to the capture of a dangerous and fanatical General Alexander Radek (Jurgen Prochnow, the captain of Das Boot), self-appointed military dictator from Kazakhstan. A group of terrorists led by psychosis Ivan Korshunov (Gary Oldman), the development uses tricks to get on board Air Force One for the trans-Atlantic journey from Moscow to Washington, DC When the plane is in the sky, Korshunov (with a little help inside) takes. The President apparently avoided in the event of an emergency custody, but, in reality, he hides in a cargo hold, ready to do battle with their own six bad guys who are passengers in the fifty-gun point, including his wife (Wendy Crewson) and 12 - year-old daughter (Liesel Matthews). Back in the USA, Vice-President (Glenn Close) is doing everything possible to defuse the situation, but firmly Korshunov: he would kill one hostage every half hour until Radek was released.
There are many times during the Air Force One when Petersen tension ratchets up to a level where the reader can forget imbecilic plot contrivances that the situation got to that point, and simply enjoy the action and adventure. Unfortunately, whenever the dialogue and plot exposition interrupt the flow, we are reminded of how implausible in the script. Moreover, the film is too long. Opening installation, which takes about 30 minutes, it is plodding (mainly because it poorly written). There is too much running in the middle of a stage and film roles in the last third of at least three endings.
The film belongs to Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman, both of which, in turn, competent (though unexceptional) performances. Neither has to stretch their range very far, because Ford is adept at playing a strong, competent hero, and Oldman became typecast as a little unhinged, scenery-chewing villain. In supporting cast includes a number of familiar faces, but other than Glenn Close, no one can do much. William H. Macy, as a member of the presidential entourage military, especially not enough.
I had hoped that some of the Petersen would feel claustrophobic Das Boot for Air Force One (in the end, as the film occur almost exclusively in isolated one cigar-shaped structures). However, rather than opt for a slow boil approach, Petersen went for a high energy / low intelligence. Result satisfactory entertaining, but no standout. Air Force One offers two hours of flashy, instant gratification. The only effect a few long ugly that happens when you expect more from a film than it actually delivers.
