‘Salem’s Lot

What the heck Stephen King thinking twenty years ago when he signed to leave these films are talking versions: Shining, or in Salem Lot?. Ah, who yelled from the “money” Yes, that would be the right answer, but despite Mullah , it does not mean that he expects the film adaptation, about as rotten as sliced, uneaten, granny smith. Overnight, these few typed tales were transformed into celluloid useless. Well this “Salem is” if at the moment — and had a good make up artist-in-hand - but “The Shining”? Entertaining sure, but essentially only related to the book by name.

A couple of years ago, “The Shining” was remade as a mini-series. No offence vision late Stanley Kubrick, but he obviously did not understand King book - repetition of the guys, did. Ok, so it lacks the maniacal presence of Jack Nicholson, but the scenario was a headline act in any case - and that, in contrast to the dungeon and original, captivated us.

Now, “in Salem Lot” gets the mini-series repeat treatment. And you know what? Do you really want to sit through this one - the title: David Soul fans picket Office - in its entirety. Next to the original, it Otsifrovschik.

As always reliable Rob Lowe stars as Ben Mears, a young writer who returns to his hometown of Jerusalem Lot - In “Jeru” is missing from the town sign, leaving only the words’ Salems’ - to pen a book. In the event that it does not think some of the locals were quite strange - part of the reason for returning to pen a book - he begins to suspect that the city’s new antique dealer (Donald Sutherland) might have something to do with the sudden disappearance of a couple of guys. “And he would be Human - Santa Claus promising trading partner and its imperceptible (Rutger “Can you say typecast?” Hauer) are looting the people for their vampiric needs.

In addition to the strong cast, a movie film aptly pace - using half the film to introduce us to people, and then deny them the right to get away and the fight against the vampire happens in the second half. And although the special effects budget is appreciably low, some of those cheapish effects really very effective.

There are several problems associated with the show. Plot holes are substantial and forthcoming (in vampires could not enter his home, not asked, though Hauer nature can be divided directly from the kitchen one’s abode?) Some notable goofs (car steering well on the right side, then on the left, then on the right side), as well as Australian spectators may be slightly delayed, some local performances in the film. Robert Grabb (SeaChange) has a good stab at an American accent and Rebecca Gibney, too, for the most part, but some of the local actors, not even seem to be trying to. Their accents affect between Ocker Aussie and American in the best of times. Most of the Aussies enough to look at ease in the film is only a few who seemed to be struggling - they are not forgetting the local Aussie soap, but soft dollars terror figure.

Again, this is something you forget as soon as the story kicked in.

“Sale of Lot” is not quite as good as “The Shining” mini-series, but it was good. And, as the latter, the best news is that this is better than the original.
