On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

Except for one aspect of the production, at Her Majesty’s Secret Service is now the most longstanding entry James Bond series. The film contains some of the most exhilarating action sequences ever to reach the screen, a touching love story, and a wonderful subplot, which is 007 conversion agent (and even threatened to resign) Her Majesty’s Secret Service. The problem with Bond himself. After the departure of Sean Connery after You Only Live Twice, in the film were to come to a replacement. The man they have chosen to model named George Lazenby, it is boring, and his ineffectualness reduces image quality.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service plays with Lazenby Introduction. First, we do not see his face - just over the back of the head-to-shoulder shot. In “James Bond Theme” plays, however, so there is no doubt about who should be on the screen. Then, after the beach, where the struggle Lazenby in particular showed Bond makes an oblique reference to the actor’s switch: “It has never happened in the other fellow.” Later, Moneypenny comment that Bond is “still the same James.”

Lazenby can perform a sequence of actions, but also that of all his masters. For most of the film, he is stiff and uncharismatic, exhibiting little style and charm that marked Sean Connery interpretation. Worse, Lazenby appeared to be deliberately imitating its predecessor (and no doubt that Roger Moore did not make in Live and Let Die), which only reminds us that we are missing.

Even with the leading men’s restrictions, however, on Her Majesty’s Secret Service, another fine picture. This is the only film where Bond 007 - fell in love with the present. The object of his love, Tracy (Diana Rigg), it was concerned European crime boss’s daughter, Draco (Gabriele Ferzetti). After Tracy Bond saves lives and pays the expense of debt-20000 francs, Dragon becomes interested in acquiring British agent as a son-in-law. Bond reducing his sentence of one million pounds to marry Tracy, and then proceed to fall in love with her anyway.

In romance covers most of the film in the first forty-five minutes, as well as the final fifteen. For a number of famous for their actions, sensitivity James / Tracy team is surprising. Rigg does an excellent job raising her hand and, after viewing her performance, it is not difficult to understand how the Bond may fall for stubborn Tracy. Lazenby, on the other hand, managed to be just adequate - it is the only case in which a woman Bond upstages 007. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service contains three of the most tender moments ever, as in any Bond movie: James clearance from Tracey tears at her father’s birthday, a marriage proposal and a final, heartbreaking scene.

The film is not all love and kisses, however. The main plot involves the return Bloufeld (Telly Savalas in this incarnation). This time, he plans to conduct a campaign of biological weapons, which will be conducted with “Study Clinic high in the Alps. Production as a genealogist (Bloufeld wants to legitimatize its claim as the Count of Blochamp), Bond-site visit. Despite their personal meetings in You Only Live Twice, Bloufeld does not recognize its opponent (possibly change his confused Lazenby), but a minor error in 007 strokes cover, and he soon during his lifetime, and with Bloufeld impose his assistant, Irma Bunt (Ilse Steppat), right behind him.

In half of the prosaic On Her Majesty’s Secret Service almost non-stop action. There is a fantastic night ski sequence, a car chase down icy streets, and through the heart of a stock car race, avalanches, Bloufeld helicopter raid on the clinic, and fisticuffs at speeds bobsled. Director Peter Hunt has a flair for such scenes, and he keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

Of the eleven Bond films scored John Barry, the composer’s work for Her Majesty’s Secret Service is the best. Despite the absence of the title song, the opening number incitement (he was later used as incidental music for the teaser A View to Kill). Love song “We Have All the Time in the World” sung by Louis Armstrong, is a perfect complement to James and Tracey growing attachment. I cadres from the “James Bond Theme” without a flaw.

After the relative commercial failure On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Lazenby happily retired from the role, and Connery is back for another go-around. It is sad to consider what this film could lead to the original, but it’s good that it is so well without him. Even worse, equipped with 007, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a landmark change-of-pace, and the exhilarating and affecting piece of entertainment.
