40 Days and 40 Nights
I remember when I used to give things to the post. One year later, he was my guide. Another year, it was candy. Then a year, I tried to abandon the home (which did not go over too well with my parents or teachers). But I never try to abandon sex. (My young age may have something to do with it.) Nevertheless, for reasons known only to filmmakers, and select those few who are analyzing the main character in dubious arguments, Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett) has decided that that 40 days Lent, it will refrain from sexual contact, sexual acts, and masturbation. (For the guy in his early 20’s, which largely eliminates any reason to live.) Thus, born lame premise of this romantic comedy.
I accept that logic and intelligence is not among the primary (or, in some cases, desirable) traits necessary to implement the proposal picture comedy. However, calling for 40 days and 40 nights moronic may be a gross overestimation. This, as stupid as movies come. To be forgiven this shortcoming, the film should be much more fun than this. If you are rolling in passageways, convulsed with laughter, no matter how inane material. But when the humor is flat and repetition, as in this case, the lack of credible plot becomes a serious shortcoming. The level of comedy, which range from crude to insults, reminds me that the dirty jokes grade snicker about bathrooms when simply expressing a four-letter word is the great joy.
Matt begins with his great experiment when, six months after being dumped in the beautiful Nicole (Vinessa Shaw), he could not get over it. He has participated in countless one-night stands, but believes that sex should be empty. So, he decides to abstain for the post. Then he makes the first of many mistakes - said his big mouth-neighbours, Ryan (Paulo Costanzo), of its decision. Ryan, in true entrepreneurial style, runs the pool, where for $ 50 a pop, entrants can guess that the day would slip Matt activities. (With friends like this …) Meanwhile, the fall of Matt Erica (Shannyn Sossamon), a beautiful girl he meets at the laundromat, and must understand how to explain his temporary celibacy it without sounding like a nut or religious freak. His decision to play it cool and say nothing backfires when Eric opens web site, which is being conducted by Ryan solicit bids through the Internet.
In a genial nature of the two leaders and a genuine chemistry between Josh Hartnett and Shannyn Sossamon balances many of the negatives for the first three quarters of the film. Then, about 20 minutes left, 40 days and 40 nights implodes with a set of coincidences, contrivances, and the unpleasant thought that will leave even the most forgiving film-goer shaking his head in disgust. I could cite specific examples of major gaffes logical (such as why someone would pay $ 3500 for membership in the pool with a $ 50 entry fee) or simply acts of idiocy (in handcuffs), but those are just the symptoms of a wider problem : terribly ended syndrome.
Weed humiliation humor that the 40 days and 40 nights practice works best when the protagonist is a twit - uptight, arrogant or otherwise irritating. In this case, Matt is a likable and quite normal, so that all belittling and embarrassment makes director Michael Lehmann (The truth about cats and dogs) meet as small and cruel. This approach is fine if we do not need to worry about, but because filmmakers intend us to sympathize with Matt, it does not work. It is virtually impossible for someone laugh at you to establish an emotional connection with.
Hartnett does not have much range, but it is such a role that does not stretch his acting ability beyond the narrow limits. Hollywood tries to turn it into the next twenty-something heartthrob, but I still do not see anything special about it, or any indication that it is able to provide inspired work. His co-star attraction, Shannyn Sossamon, showed great improvement over its more-help to turn forgotten A Knight ’s Tale. It is obviously in that role, catching on camera and the viewer’s eye. Hartnett and Sossamon work well together, and while it is important to the success of a romantic comedy, is not only an important element. 40 days and 40 nights get this right, but not much more. If you are desperate to give something in Lent, to make his films, like this one.
