4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Be careful what you want, you can get it…

For non-comic book fans for 13 years, Fantastic Four: The uprising Silver Surfer is a tedious, incoherent bore. For fans of comic books, at any age, the atrocity - a movie desecration of one of the most storied and beloved comic book from Marvel epics. It reduces the symbol characters soulless special effects, and then one of the most sinister and dangerous of all villains in interplanetary storm clouds. The actions to which little is predictable and unexciting. The so-called “drama” in which there are too many, is painful. Soap opera writers would be ashamed to write the script of such drivel. Later in the overlay of the “comedy”, which is meant to describe superheroes “comic book origins, except it is not funny, and it makes Fantastic Four, it seems more like a four Stooges than the quartet world saviors. Over the story that has been kicked around one form or another in Hollywood for 30 years (at one point, it was that starred Olivia Newton-John as the Silver Surfer in girlfriend), can prevent that this is the best filmmakers could divine.

Bring on Galactus, I advised during my review of the underwhelming first film Fantastic Four. Well, they brought him and promptly dissed him. He was not much of a presence in the film, always fluctuates out of sight, if not entirely from the mind. And when it comes time for the big “reveal” the word “underwhelming” is not the experience of justice. Of course, the Galactus of the comic book, with its bright purple suit and helmet funny, perhaps looked a little silly on the big screen, but his attitude is a huge disappointment. To quote Star Trek: The Movement photos, which also have space cloud in the direction of the Earth: “Is that all there is? There is nothing more?”

When the film opens, Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) are trying to get married. But their nuptial plans interrupted when Celestial traveler named Silver Surfer (Doug Jones, the voice of Laurence Fishburne) arrives on Earth to prepare it as the next meal for his master devouring the planet, Galactus. His arrival arouses Dr. Doom (Julian McMahon), which operates through nefarious means to be known as a leading scholar on the government draft study Surfer and his board. Reed, Sue, and other members of the quartet, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) and Ben Grimm (Michael Chilkis), find all their efforts to stop Surfer be futile, and each time they fail, Galactus is ever closer.

Director Tim Story, who also helmed 2005 in Fantastic Four, it seems, are convinced that the film should be pitched to pre-adolescents. There is a disturbing film about the superhero carriage PG rating. There are many special effects, but the sequence of actions (which include soaring flight of the last New York skyscrapers and chase featuring souped activities Dodge - talk about product placement!) Could be removed from the video game and skills atrocious. Story product creates, and he lost sight of all that makes Fantastic Four beloved fans. I can not say this is the worst comic book superhero movie to grace the silver screen, but he dregs (and the series had not yet even reached # 3 yet).

Acting almost uniformly cringe-inducing. Were it not for his work on Amazing Grace, I would be convinced that Ioan Gruffudd has no talent. Jessica Alba making love to the camera with her looks, but no amount of physical beauty can hide the fact that she could not act. (At the next meeting, I keep a game guy, “It’s hot!” rather than “What an actress!” This, I believe, is the point.) Nip / Tuck “with Julian McMahon froths at the mouth so vigorously that it is interesting, if he Rabies. Stripped of his shield and caught under the foam and latex, Michael Chilkis Ben Grimm is close to a sympathetic figure, until the bad jokes to get in the way. Chris Evans, I merely annoying, even though it comes closest to nature arc.

This movie is a mess. It is as if the script was cobbled together in haste then changed during filming. In the end, in addition to a letdown, is meaningless. Much of what happens in the movie, including a re-introduction of Dr. destiny feels quite arbitrarily. What to say about the big picture when Stan Lee cameo this attention? (This was the only time I smiled.) Increase Silver Surfer only 90 minutes, but it seems as protracted and pointless as anything else this summer has been forced to offer.

I can understand how there might be some disposable appeal here to an audience that does not care that much in the unfolding on the screen. However, the Silver Surfer recovery so lackluster he makes Spider-Man 3 feel like a masterpiece in comparison. Peter Parker more personality than all four of the heroes of this film together. And this is unfortunate, because Fantastic Four deserve better. I was prepared to forgive her mediocre series first entry into force of origin stories are always limited, but there is no excuse for this. Growth Silver Surfer is an insult to the comic book fans and movie fans alike. Those who know and love Fantastic Four will curse Tim Story and 20 Century Fox, as they leave multiplexers and shaking his head in disgust.
