2001 Maniacs
And last Herschell Gordon Lewis’ classic splatter film Two thousand Maniacs!, 2001 Maniacs, certainly lived up to his predecessor as far as grief, but appears to provide short-term measures characters worth caring about a conspiracy or is the following.
Like the original, 2001 Maniacs future revolves around a few revelers who find themselves trapped in a small Southern town after the detour route to Daytona Beach. There they encounter an entire community consists exclusively of Civil War re-enactors - complete with a gregarious (and superficial) Mayor (played by Robert Englund). Visitors first as a pleasure at the special treatment they individually admission - that is, one guy gets to watch two of the girls do - but it’s not long before the city becomes ominous obvious.
Most of the 2001 Maniacs “is devoted to the first half of the sequence, in which the finely-drawn characters frolic and parties in accidental explosion in the mountain of stones” in good measure. Although there are a couple of decent performances (Englund, in particular, in his scenery-chewing best), the film is replete with precisely the hollow and subpar acting that one generally associated with the low-budget horror flicks.
Director and one of the writer Tim Sullivan infuses 2001 Maniacs with tongue in cheek clearly vibe that initially intriguing, but ultimately dull, no scares, of course, did not help matters, though the director, of course, proved himself adept proposing measures to massacres sequences. But the truth is that the film is the absence of both laughs and scares prevent it becoming a cheeky horror comedy Sullivan made clear that he wants to be (in fairness, this genre is virtually impossible to make a right).
